Islamic Safe House (2007) makes an association in form to the Renfrewshire council house rented by two terrorists who attacked Glasgow Airport with a car bomb in 2007. The work’s title, alluding to a sort of haven, belies the structure’s precarious placement on top of a tall, spindle-legged table. Fabricated in a “boy’s bedroom” manner, the sculpture is labeled with the words “life,” “mind,” “wealth,” “land,” and “belief”—the five rights of man under Islam.
